SkyFail

Quirky in-flight catalog SkyMall is in jeopardy after its parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported. An auction is scheduled for March.

Both SkyMall LLC and its parent company, Xhibit Corp., petitioned the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for a supervised sale of their assets.

“With the increased use of electronic devices on planes, fewer people browsed the SkyMall in-flight catalog,” acting Chief Executive Scott Wiley said in court documents.

More airlines offer Internet access and changes to flight safety rules allow passengers to keep their tablets and smartphones on during takeoff and landing. Both of those factors mean fewer people are perusing the catalog, Wiley explained.

Damien's note: You don't think people may have finally figured out they don't need any of that junk? No, what am I saying? This is America! Junk good!

  2. It was a fun read, if only to admire the cheek of the inventors to dream up such ACMD contraptions.
