Dowry



1 Samuel 18:25
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

BTW, some Biblical sites online claim that there is no evidence in the Bible of grooms purchasing their brides. The fact that one does not find the words "A bride costs XXX" does not prove their claim. There are plenty of references to dowries and so on.

  1. I think they tried to live by these Mosiac laws during the Cromwell years in England. But even the most conservatives threw him out in time; sensible.
