More on Trail Life: Not for Jews either

A few days ago, I posted about an encounter with a father and son from Trail Life, the Boy Scout alternative group founded as a refuge for those who did not want to associate with gays.

Now it seems it is also a refuge for those who prefer not to associate with Jews. Click on the statement to embiggen it, if necessary.

I note that the only justification is that other groups do this -- which is to say, their sister group. So only them, essentially.

Well, Daniel loves to camp out. Me? I just prefer to camp it up. Which would perhaps confuse Trail Life, since Daniel was raised Jewish and would be ineligible, whereas I was not only a Christian but a Christian seminarian.

At any rate, no one says they have to accept Jewish leadership. Any more than I have to accept people who claim to be Christians as my governmental leaders.

There was a certain inevitability ...

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Vandals flipped over a handful of miniature Smart cars parked in two typically quiet San Francisco neighborhoods on Monday, authorities said.

San Francisco police officers responding to reports of a loud crash at about 1 a.m. found four of the tiny energy-efficient vehicles upside down, on their side or rear.

Witnesses told police a group of six to eight people dressed in black hooded sweatshirts gathered around and tipped over at least one car in Bernal Heights, an upscale and neighborhood.

So-called "Smart tipping" became an issue several years ago in Canada and Amsterdam, where pranksters would lift the two-seaters and plop them onto their sides or dump them into canals over a series of months in 2009, auto blogs and other media reported at the time.

Smart cars, made by a division of German auto manufacturer Daimler AG, are more than three feet (one meter) shorter than a Mini Cooper and almost five feet shorter than a Volkswagon Beetle with little cargo space.

"These cars are quite small," an officer said. "If it was a full size vehicle, then it would be difficult (to tip) even with a (large) group."

In the Bay Area, a total of three flipped Smart cars were spotted on Monday within a few blocks of each other in Bernal Heights and a fourth was located in the nearby community of Portola. Police were unaware of other similar car tipping incidents in San Francisco.

Unlike cow-tipping, car tipping could be a felony. So don't get any  smart ideas!

Reality television program about Amish a fake? World shocked!

The old rumors that Amish Mafia is a fake are re-surfacing, perhaps a sign that the show's ratings need a bump by virtue of controversy.

I am waiting for them to do a Catholic version, Franciscan Mafia, in which brown-robed clergy go around protecting Bill Donohue from vile persecution by people who know the Bible and the law and the proper use of reasoned discourse.

Live better?

Things not to do in court

The banning of celebrity chef Nigella Lawson from flying to the US featured in the Independent, Chris Gray tells us: “The 54-year-old, who is a judge on cookery show The Taste in the US, admitted she had taken cocaine seven times and also to smoking cannabis during a court hearing.” [Emphasis added]

Well, no wonder she got in trouble.

Note to self: do not smoke cannabis in front of a judge.

NSFW?

The debut issue of Porn Studies, published by Routledge and co-edited by a professor at London’s Middlesex University -- yes, Middlesex -- was released in March. And, most likely those with this journal in their possession really did pick it up for the articles. Titles include “Revisiting dirty looks,” “Hard to swallow:Hard-core pornography on screen,” “Internationalizing porn studies” and “Pornography, porno, porn.”

Time magazine commented that "anyone looking for titillation is likely to be disappointed. (Unless what turns you on is sociological analysis, in which case — it’s your lucky day.)" The Atlantic stated, "The mere fact of its existence, which became public in mid-2013, was occasion for a media event. But the journal's articles are serious articulations of the intersection between the concerns of media studies and those of pornography. Porn Studies is not a joke, though it seems to provide everyone with some relief to treat it as one."

The editors, in their journal notes, called Porn Studies a labor of love.

Or something like.

Another reason to worry about April 15?

A 'blood moon' eclipse will occur in mid-April and be the first of four such astronomical events to take place over the next two years.

According to astronomers, the 'blood moon' eclipse will be visible on April 15 for the majority of the country, beginning at approximately 3:07 a.m. EST and lasting around 77 minutes. It will reportedly hit its peak at 3:36 a.m. EST. For those living on the West Coast, the 'blood moon' eclipse will reportedly be visible one day earlier.

The 'blood moon' occurs when the lunar surface adopts a shade of reddish-orange color as the Earth casts its shadow on the moon. The color results from the Earth's atmosphere bending toward the moon.

Often associated with the supernatural, this 'Blood Moon' cycle of eclipses is of particular religious significance in this cycle for some, being that all four 'Blood Moons' coincide with major Jewish feast days between 2014 and 2015, thereby tying in with a prophecy mentioned in the Book of Genesis and the Hebrew Bible's Book of Joel.

In the Book of Joel, Chapter 3:3-4, the 'blood moon' prophecy predicts, "The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come."

According to some Christians, the 'blood moon' prophecy suggests the Second Coming of Christ.

The 2014 'blood moons' will occur on April 15 and on Oct. 8, which respectively coincide with the Jewish Passover and Feast of the Tabernacle, or Sukkot. In 2015, the same blood-red eclipses will happen on April 4 and on September 28, which again coincide with the same Jewish holidays one year later.

Though rare, consecutive total lunar eclipses, known as "tetrads," have occurred in the recent past, the last time being in 2004 and 2005, and are likely to occur between eight and nine times over the next 100 years.

The Moon Is Going To Look Sick On April 15th

Sky watchers and those who just like to see cool stuff should keep an eye out on April 15th! A lunar eclipse will soon be on the way with a unique twist. A “blood red” moon will be created during these total lunar eclipses which will bathe it in a glow that looks, as its name would imply, blood red. This is to be the first of four “blood red” moon eclipses over the next year and a half. So if for some reason you aren’t up at three in the morning, you’ll have plenty of other chances to come up with an excuse as to why you didn’t see this awesome phenomena. Kidding aside, this event comes with some huge historical significance.

According to Tech Times, four blood moons happening in a short period of time is a rare occurrence. As the video below you will state, it has only happened three times in the past 500 years and is referred to as a lunar tetrad. In the past lunar tetrads have coincided with major events, specifically those involving the Jewish religion.

The first lunar tetrad happened in 1492-1493. Americans will remember this as when Columbus discovered America, and religious historians will also point to the expulsion of the Jews from Spain. The second lunar tetrad would come on the heels of Israel being declared a nation in 1949. Mere coincidence right? Almost two decades later, the third lunar tetrad happened during the Arab-Israeli war.

So is it another coincidence that this upcoming lunar tetrad will fall on Jewish Passover 2014? While the evidence is very compelling, the last Lunar Tetrad happened without incident in 2004 and the end of times has not happened, so rest assured the Earth may keep spinning on its axis after all.

Speaking of which, your location isn’t relative to where you can or can’t see this “blood red” moon. Unlike solar eclipses where only certain parts of the world will see them at any given time, these total eclipses will be visible from wherever the moon is visible, as the color is caused by refracting light off of the earth. Will the Earth end because of these total eclipses? No one can say for sure, but it is interesting that we will have 8 more lunar tetrads before the 21st century is over. So enjoy this one when it comes, and perhaps get in the mood with some R.E.M or Pink Floyd while you watch April 15th.
